Active & Able

Older people are being encouraged to get healthy the fun way with a new programme of exercise classes across the Borough.

The sessions provide a relaxed and friendly way for over 50's to learn Tai Chi and other gentle exercise moves in local village halls and Severn Vale properties.

Active & Able is a scheme to provide exercise classes to older people in the community to help individuals maintain their mobility and independence. They are also a fun way in which to get to know people in your neighbourhood.

Classes are either £3.50 or £1.50 depending on their length. This includes additional assessments and refreshments. Participants are able to pay as you go and there is no need to pay up front.

Cllr Elaine Hancox said: "This is a great way to increase your ability to walk up and down the stairs unaided, play with your grandchildren or make getting in and out of the car a little easier. It's never too late to start to become more active!"

Kate Sisman from Severn Vale said: "We are delighted to be working with the Borough Council to provide these classes. We've asked our residents what they want and have put the programme together based on their wishes. I only wish I was young enough to take part!"

Please contact the Active & Able Adviser for more information or to discuss participation in the class or just pop along. If you're not sure about coming, or want to know more, then you can visit and have a look at no cost. We look forward to seeing you!

A class is held in the Old School on Tuesdays at 3pm.
