More donors needed in Highnam

New, existing or retired donors in Highnam, this is an appeal to you.  Our Highnam session has always been a fairly reliable session with local donors giving regularly.  But over time our donor base can decline.  Unfortunately donation figures for the Highnam session are consistently under target and unless we continually recruit new donors to replace those being lost, the decline will continue.

So our first favour to ask of you is to help us enrol more donors in your area.  If you have been meaning to enrol, this is the perfect opportunity. If you are a regular donor, you may have a friend or family member who, with a little encouragement, could become a life saver too.  You can enrol quickly and easily via our website or local rate number which are both listed below.

Another reason for our appeal at this time is the dip in stock levels we regularly see over the summer period and during the forthcoming winter flu season.  We ask that if you are going on holiday this summer, abroad or within the UK , please try and give before you go especially if you are travelling to a malaria area.  We also need donors to come forward now and donate in preparation for the flu season.  We will be gradually building our stocks to compensate for those who may develop the flu bug and will not be able to donate.

Important changes over the past few months may give retired or suspended donors the opportunity to donate again.  We have lifted our upper age limit so that if you donate before your 65th birthday you can continue donating as long as you are fit and well.  People with type 1 diabetes are now able to donate as long as they have been on a steady dose of medication for at least 4 weeks.  We hope that by revising these restrictions we are able to welcome back some of our much needed donors.

Your next opportunity to donate in Highnam will be  on Friday 11th December at The Gambier Parry Hall at Highnam Community Centre Trust, please book an appointment.  Our website www.blood.co.uk is a great source for session dates and times, recipient stories and factual information or if you’d prefer to speak to someone about a medical query, you can call our local rate number 0300 1 23 23 23.

Footpaths

Do you walk around Highnam?  Would be you like to be part of the team that keeps our footpaths clear?  If there is a particular footpath that you would like to 'adopt', or you would like more information please get in touch.  There is a petrol strimmer available if required.

 Litter Picking Team

We now have a team of litter pickers covering the whole village.  If you see a particular "grot spot" do let the Clerk know and she will co-ordinate a clear up.  If you would like to be part of the team then  get in touch.  Don't forget that fly tipping should be reported directly to Tewkesbury Borough Council.
